United States: A healthy mouth means a healthy heart which is according to a new review or study by the experts. Researchers found out that people who have already lost teeth are more vulnerable to die from heart problems, an obviously the risk increases with the number of teeth lost.

Main Predictor of Cardiovascular Mortality

“Tooth loss is not  typically just a dental issue but a major predictor of cardiovascular disease mortality,” said Dr. Anita Aminosharia who is a professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine.”

As reported by HealthDay, she emphasized the importance of maintaining good oral health for both a healthy smile and a healthy heart. Regular  and daily dental check-ups and preventive care can help minimizing  the risk of serious cardiovascular events, the study highlights.

Study Details and Findings

For the new review, researchers pooled data from the 12 previous studies examining the association between the tooth loss and the heart-related death

The data revealed that people who’d lost several teeth had 66% higher chance of dying from the heart problems, compared to those who didn’t.

People who’d lost all their teeth had even more higher risk of the heart-related death, results show. The new study was published recently in the Journal of Endodontics.

Critical Threshold for Tooth Loss

The point at which the risk skyrocketed appeared to be the 10 or fewer teeth said the researchers.

“The magic number is 10”, Aminosharieae said and for those who had 10 teeth or less they’re in trouble.”
