United States: Heat dome is causing heat waves and extreme temperatures to linger in the Western part of the country and due to rise in temperature it is majority of people in United States are dealing with the issues related to health and specially in the western part of the country.

Formation and Impact of Heat Domes

A heat dome forms when high atmospheric pressure traps warm ocean air over a specific region. Heat domes prolong the elevated temperatures, although heat waves frequently occur concurrently.

From where did it originate?

USA Today claims that there is some connection between the heat dome that is currently impacting the United States and a similar phenomenon that has been occurring over Mexico lately. Mexico is going through its worst drought in more than ten years, and it has suffered through crop shortages over the last month.

The heat wave from Mexico may potentially be connected to other recent extreme weather events in the United States. Heat domes are usually the site of storm formation. In the past few weeks, the United regions has seen the highest number of tornadoes since 2011 as well as significant rainfall and floods in Southern regions.

Who is the heat dome going to affect?

The heat dome is predicted to be at its worst in the western region of the United States though this week parts of the Arizona and Las Vegas are expecting “life-threatening,”  triple-digit temperatures and it is predicted that death valley in California, which is almost around 260 miles from Los Angeles, will expericence temperatures in 120s.

Over the course of the past week, the National Weather Service has already issued numerous excessive heat advisories for California and the rest of the West on various days. The lifting of those advisories is not expected to happen until Thursday or Friday.

The extreme heat has formerly had an impact on California, as substantiated by the several backfires that have started in recent days. Wind and the high temperatures in Tracy, California, roughly an hour west of San Francisco, banged a 14,000- acre fire. Indeed though the fire is presently 75 contained, workers trying to put out the remaining fires may still have difficulties due to the high temperatures in the forthcoming days.
