Budget Battles Won't Stop 'Public Health Week' in US State

United States: The Arlington Health and Human Services Department (HHS) takes part in the nationwide Public Health Week that the American Public Health Association leads starting from April 7.

More about the news

The initiative started its campaign the day after a judicial decision stopped President Trump from implementing USD 11 billion in public health funding reductions following Massachusetts and other states filed their lawsuit against the Health and Human Services Department and Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The current “It Starts Here” campaign of the awareness week seeks to build community capacity for resident health and wellness promotion.

Daily Themes Drive Community Engagement

Residents need to monitor the town website and social media pages because the week features daily themes according to the town’s latest announcement, as yourarlington.com reported.

The Trump administration received criticism from the Healey-Driscoll administration when they proposed budget cuts to public health grants throughout the nation on March 26.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notified the state that several public health infrastructure grants received from the federal government will be stopped.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration canceled funding that was assigned to the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health without proper warning.

US District Judge Mary McElroy declared on April 3 that she intended to issue a temporary restraining order that blocked these multimillion-dollar budget reductions.

The lawsuit was brought forward by Democratic attorney generals and governors from 23 states, and the District of Columbia charged these budget cuts with being illegal and damaging, as yourarlington.com reported.
